Other community needs

Farmers in a village near Lakota now have easy access to clean, fresh water – thanks to the installation of a village water pump.

Working with cooperatives, supporting communities

Barry Callebaut’s Quality Partner Program is a long-term program built on partnership and sustainability principles. As part of our commitment, we actively engage in dialogue with our partner cooperatives to better understand their business challenges, and the needs of their cocoa farmer members.

In addition to our core areas of focus – farming training, education and health – we also work with QPP cooperatives on other community projects, such as water wells, solar energy and transportation.

For example, in the village of Moussadougou, located 20 km from Lakota, Barry Callebaut and the union UCODEL, a QPP partner, drilled a new bore hole and installed a water pump for the community. Some 4,000 people in the community who previously used water from a nearby creek, now have easy access to clean, fresh water.
